Fiberglass and cellulose dust: N95 minimum, P100 preferred for a long attic session. Two-part spray foam: fitted half-face respirator with organic vapor cartridges plus P100 pre-filters. Old or contaminated insulation removal: P100, full coverage, and no facial hair under the seal.

Disposable hooded coveralls stop fiberglass at the collar and cuffs, which is where itch starts. Add nitrile-coated work gloves, sealed goggles rather than open-sided glasses, and a cheap hat if there is a nail-studded roof deck overhead.

Bright work lights on stands, a walk board or stilts so you never step between joists, a helper who knows you are up there, and water. Attics regularly hit 120°F+ in summer — work early morning in hot weather.

Rinse in cool water first, then shower. Wash work clothes separately. Remove coveralls outside so you do not carry fibers through the house.
